The one product of the Alpha Portland Cement Company is ALPHA CEMENT, made only in one grade and sold always on the guarantee that it will more than meet standard specifications adopted by the. American Society for Testing Materials, and approved by the American Engineering Standards Committee.
ALPHA CEMENT is furnished ordinarily in cotton sacks (see illustration below), carrying 94 pounds net-approximately one cubic foot of aetual ee-ent-but will be supplied also in paper containers or in bulk carload shipments without containers.
ALPTTA CEMENT is one of the oldest American brands and won its reputation in the days when foreign-made cements were used generally in America because of their supposed superior quality. Hourly tests during manufacturing process insure uniform ALPHA quality.
Suggested Uses:
ALPHA CEMENT will give the best results in every type of improvement calling for a high-grade Portland Cement. The requisites are simple-that it be thoroughly mixed with proper proportions of water and suitable aggregates-clean sand mid crushed stone, gravel or pebbles, slag, or other approved coluise aggregate. All cement improvements should be reinforced at points that undergo strain.
ALPHA CEMENT improvements, whether for the home building proper or for supplementary improvements for the yard or farm, have much in their favor. They can be made rust-proof, rat-proof, rot-proof, fireproof and water-proof. As the illustrations on this page show, there is a pleasing variety of surface finishes obtainable. This variety may be increased by the use of suitable coloring matter in the mortar. The Alpha Cement handbook, illustrated on this page, gives formulas for obtaining these color effects, whether for main walls of house or for porches, walks, gate-posts etc. ALPHA CEMENT stucco mortar may be applied directly to the surface of the coarsely finished cement block with satisfying results. Such an exterior looks well and requires no painting.

Directions for Placing a Stucco Coat:
Drench the masonry and cement. block walls thoroughly with water, but let drain off before applying the stucco. Apply the stucco continuously in one direction, and do not let the edges dry up. Work stucco coats only to an extent that is absolutely necessary. Keep mortar coats wet for several days. Apply water as soon as each coat has hardened enough so that it will not wash. Apply the finish coat only after previous coats have been cured for at least one week. Use only wood float to prepare the finish coat for final surface finishing.
