The Charm of Color
Imagine what a drab world this would be if it were not for color! Nature is lavish in her use of color and as a result we have blue sky, green fields, red earth, gray rocks and multi- tinted flowers all blended into a harmonious landscape of which the very soul is—COLOR
Color in the Home
Inside the home color is used in profusion on the walls, the draperies, the floor coverings, and even on the polychrome ornamentations of the lighting fixtures. But why confine the charm of color to the inside of the home?
Is the appearance of the outside of the house of no im- portance? We are speaking now of brick houses for in frame houses contrasting colors are always used for the body color and the trim. But when you build for permanence with brick why do you invariably use white mortar?
Just habit, isn’t it? You have heard of Mortar Colors, perhaps, but are not familiar with the beautiful effects that can be obtained by their use. Perhaps you think they are difficult to use—or expensive—or not reliable. None of these things are true. Mortar Colors are easy to use, they are inexpensive and if you are careful to select a reliable brand (such as Anchor Brand) they are as permanent and non- fading as the brick themselves.
A Distinctive Home
If there is any one thing that the home-owner desires above another it is a digtinctive home. He does not wish his house to look like all the other houses in the neighborhood. He wants a house that is different—one that possesses a per sonality of its own. Working with brick there is no way in which you can so easily give charm and individuality to the exterior of a home as by using colored mortar.

Anchor Brand Cement Colors
Anchor Brand Cement Colors are very finely ground and produce clear, bright tones with a minimum of coloring material. They are used in floors, sidewalks, cast stone work, roofing and floor tile, stucco, etc., and should not be confused with mortar colors.
For Cement Floors—Although colored cement floors are comparatively inexpensive, they should never receive the treatment of a cheap floor. Colored cement, if carefully laid, finished and protected, will be found to possess all the decorative qualities of more expensive mate- rials, along with the strength and economy of concrete.
For Stucco—The popularity of colored or tinted stucco surfaces is increasing rapidly. Directions for the use of our stucco colors will be furnished on request.
Available Colors—Our list of colors suitable for cement and stucco work is too long to pub- lish here, but the more important numbers are given below. For special shades or tints we will be glad to supply samples as requested.

Directions for Coloring Cement Floors
Subfloors under colored cement topping should be laid as usual, although it is better to use a fairly dry mix and tamp thoroughly. Allow 1 in. for top dressing, which should be laid immediately.
Top Finish—Apply top finish not less than 1 in. thick com- posed of 1 part cement and 2 parts of sharp clean sand, free from loam, and from 3 to 10 per cent of color, according to results desired. Mix the cement, sand and color thoroughly before water is added. Use only enough water to make a heavy paste. Continue mixing until the mass is absolutely free from spots or streaks of color. While the base is still moist, apply the top dressing as follows: Trowel down about 1/2 in. of colored cement at a time, so as to work the air out of the mass. Build to the surface in this manner. Use the stroke board to chop the surface, as the mass will be too tough to stroke in the usual way. Take off any surplus with the trowel. Level the surface and let it lie till it becomes dull. Do not trowel until all the water on the surface disappears.
Tile Effect. (Optional)-48 hours after application of the top finish, cut the floor 4(3 in. deep with a three-cornered file sharpened to a diamond point, so as to produce a tile effect in tlw pattern selected.
Note: Cutting floors while green will produce a. ragged edge.
As soon as the topping is sufficiently set cover the floor with a 2-in, thickness of sawdust, which should be kept wet for at least 2 weeks.
Cleaning and Vaxing—When the protective coating is removed, wash the surface with linseed oil soap, using a wire brush if necessary, to remove dirt and stains. When clean and dry, cover the surface again with a 2-in, thickness of sawdust. Just before the floor is to be put into use, polish it wit h a suitable floor wax.
